Sandy Williams has served as Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Freeport since 1979.
A graduate of Moody Bible Institute, Trinity International University (B.A.), and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (M.Div.), he is unashamedly both evangelical and ecumenical, respected for his capable and practical Bible exposition and teaching, and committed to both telling the Good News and doing good deeds.
Sandy has served on the General Board of the American Baptist Churches/USA, the American Baptist Churches of Maine, and the Christian Civic League of Maine. For more than fifteen years he has served as Chaplain of the Freeport Fire/Rescue Department.
He is a former President of the Greater Portland Evangelical Ministers Fellowship, and for over thirty years has been an Associate Member of the Evangelical Theological Society and the Society of Biblical Literature.
He and his wife Beverly reside in Freeport village. They have three adult married children and five grandchildren.
“Faith is believing God enough to trust, and trusting God enough to obey,” Sandy says, “and that kind of faith can neither be coerced nor prevented by force of law. I’m proud of the unique Baptist contribution to the American experiment—the separation of church and state. It has not only been an important and developing part of our own history as a nation, but could be the key to world diplomacy in the 21st century.”
